In These Dark Times

by Electrond

about

While the title of "In These Dark Times" might lead one to believe a dark, depressing song is forthcoming, it is entirely uplifting and optimistic. It is a recognition that others can be a source of light in the darkest of times, and that each of us can be that light for ourselves, and each other.

The instrumentation is straight out of a vintage synth lab, with classic tonalities from the 70s and 80s. The music feels reverential, almost like a hymn, with antiphonal lyrics. Like Electrond's cover of "We're Going Wrong," it is a hopeful and optimistic response to the global health and political challenges so many are facing. It is also emblematic of Trond's artistry, using timbre, arrangement, rhythm, singing, and words to convey deep and nuanced feelings.
